The Price of Bagels and Wine

Let's start with something off-topic. A rant. At one time, bagels and natural wines were within the reach of most, and not only for the privileged.

Let’s look at the present state of bagels first.

High prices and a faddish segue to sourdough in bagels are trending. Yes, my friends, the supreme delivery for lox and cream cheese is at risk of extinction. Take the Instagram star Pop Up Bagel.

I waited in line. I got there and found out it was a three-bagel minimum for $12. $4 apiece. Honestly? Really? I wouldn't do it. I couldn't do it. It bugged me to do it. Though I know one day, I’ll have to see if, as a non-sourdough bagel, it is truly a bagel as I remember it.
