t started with me missing a dog.. and then Melissa showed up. Perfect!
From there we went to Comice. So very good. Etheylia surprised us over and over again with her sensitive wine pairings like the demi-sec from Manu Lassaigne and the x-rated gougères. And one word. risotto. From there it was Paris at night. Sigh.

Onto Lyon! I saw some fancy caskets, like John II the Good and Philip le Hardi. Mango the dog, walked in as we were eating at Le Soleil. My happy place.

The next morning, off to shop for the dinner M and I were making for friends and Russell in Bouilland. Two fat fish were involved. So was asparagus with almost soft eggs and a silky spinach/leek soup. In the morning we didn’t want to leave. How could we with spring shining down on the marché? And @luchets007 playing barista for @saintromaincoffee? But we pushed on to the Jura and Paul Lewakowski (soon coming to a caviste near you) who showed off his 500 and kindly arranged for a visit with the now-retired Claude Buchot. 4 hours later we were in a dismal Arbois in a dismal wine bar in a dismal hotel and determined to leave a day early. But in the morning first a trip to @chocolaterie.hirsinger! Yes, the chocolates but the leek quiche and the weirdly long, intensely flavorful gougères!

A terrific visit with @lesbottesrouges ( vin jaune alert. 2014? ❤️) a tea and a glass at the wine bar in Poligny, @barzing_ ( hello Isabelle) and after a —why did we go to the comté museum in that town? Like—why? We headed back to Burgundy and an invite to dinner chez Matt and Megan. A solid hike overlooking Saint- Romain. Wonderful hike. But take a look at that video and that newly cleared spot on the slope. Who is the mogul who planted that vineyard and ripped out the forest? 😡.

Delish dinner. I brought a little something from the Jura. That Etienne Horbach—one to watch. Oh. The dandelions in the vineyards. ❤️ Back to Paris bkfst @mokonutsbakery and met the delightful @mashamabailey — and all three of us bonded over a shitload of pastries before heading to the Petit Palais. The unraveling of all of this— what to drink and why, coming up soonish. Until then…
